J-Bang Reviews Presents: Selma

"Selma" is a movie that follows Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s pursuit of African American's right to vote and focuses on the marches he led from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in order to obtain it. Once watched from the first minute to the last minute, I must say it is a truly dramatic film that must be watched by all nationalities. The cast is absolutely stellar, led by a David Oyelowo's breakout performance. The performances feel very real and the tempo of the movie is unsettling but efficient. There are multiple moments in this film that are brutal and uncomfortable to watch but will most likely break your heart, as it did mine. Selma is a very serious film that does not only simulates the chaos and racial tension of the 60s but also even draws parallels to recent events that have occurred in our own modern society. The movie is sad at times but can also be considered uplifting by the end. It's hard for me to describe, but my ultimate suggestion is for everyone to see it with their own eyes.

J-Bang Reviews gives "Selma" a score of 5 out of 5.
